»Shona Rhythms«

by Brendon Tawanda Takarinda, November 24, 2016

As the mountains echo
With the voices of Chimurenga
Warriors, the Rusape Forest contains
The music of children, mothers and
Daughters screaming for dear life.
The Mbira's mystical sounds reminding
Us of a past drenched with blood which
Sipped through the soil, and stripped the land of its
Wealth, caves contain the struggle songs that are
Repeated at night, as if there is a choir of dead
Warriors which sing like angels.

Mbuya Nehanda and Sekuru Kaguvi
Singing duets for the country's pain,
The hosho's harmony soothing and
Rubbing the wounds of the people
Who have to mourn their loved ones,
Oh the pain is unbearable.
As the camp fires are created and brighten
The sky, stars representing stage lights and
1980 being the theme for the concert of liberation.

"Past, Present and Future will contain a struggle that is meant to be conquered by a chosen generation"
